McDaniel’s Kappa Delta Pi Partner with Carroll Lutheran School

In September of 2014, McDaniel College’s Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, the National Honor Society for Education decided to put together a book drive to help a local elementary school. After thinking it through, Carroll Lutheran School was chosen because there was an obvious need of books in the media center. It was the perfect school to help. President of Kappa Delta Pi, Sarah Watcher, started to advertise the book drive and talked with Principal of the school, Karen Ganjon to figure out what kind of books the school was looking for. The school was able to create a wish list of twenty-five high-quality, award-winning books the media would love to have. Donations started coming in in forms of actual books from the wish list and in money donations. Generous donations came from members of Kappa Delta Pi, as well as Elementary Education Students. The McDaniel Swim Team made a generous donation and the McDaniel Education Faculty did as well. When all was said and done, Kappa Delta Pi was able to collect just under $300 and was able to purchase Carroll Lutheran School thirty brand new books. Titles covered all subject areas and grade levels. It was a successful book drive that gave back to the community and Kappa Delta Pi would love to continue to do such events. The books were delivered to the school in early January, with both joy from the givers and the receivers.
