Dress Code and Uniform Policy

Carroll Lutheran School Dress Code
2022 – 2023
Shorts may only be worn until October 31st and after April 1st
Leggings/tights/knee socks should be worn
November 1st thru March 31st

Students attending Carroll Lutheran School are expected to present a neat and clean appearance. During the school day, all shirts must be tucked in neatly, with the exception of PE shirts. The dress code has been explicitly devised to help parents and students avoid confusion about what is to be worn to school. Each student is required to wear the complete uniform on the first day of school and thereafter, unless otherwise directed by the principal. Neatness and cleanliness in personal attire are very much part of a child’s education and are the responsibility of the parent.

Daily Uniform

Girls

  • Hairstyles are to be neat and in good taste. Excessive haircuts are not acceptable.
  • Hair color may be only those colors which are genetically possible.
  • During the school day, only one necklace may be worn.
  • During the school day, only one bracelet may be worn on each wrist at a time excluding wristwatch.
  • Pierced jewelry may be worn only in ears.
  • No more than three pierced earrings may be worn in each ear.
  • Glitter makeup may not be worn. Makeup should be minimal and not distracting.
  • The administration reserves the right to ask for the removal of makeup deemed to be inappropriate.

Boys

  • Hair is to be neat and clean. The hair must be cut as not to extend below the top of the shirt collar or the top of the eyebrows and side burns and/or hair style may not extend below the bottom of the earlobe.
  • No rubber bands, headbands, or other items to hold hair are to be worn in the hair.
  • Excessive haircuts or shaven configurations (ridge lines) are not permitted.
  • During the school day, only one necklace may be worn.
  • During the school day, only one bracelet may be worn on each wrist at a time excluding wrist watch.
  • No earrings or earring spacers, other piercings, or inappropriate jewelry are allowed.
  • No hats or caps may be worn in the building.
  • No makeup or nail polish may be worn during school or during activities sponsored by Carroll Lutheran School.

GIRLS (Grade K – 8)

Polo Shirt: Light Blue or Navy Blue short or long sleeve pique polo shirt with CLS logo.
Blouse: Light blue Peter Pan collared long or short sleeve blouse. Does not need to have logo.
* During the school day, all shirts must be tucked in neatly, with the exception of PE shirts.
Pants: Khaki or Navy Blue (twill type). No cargo, jean type, or low-rise pants are acceptable.
Shorts: Khaki or Navy Blue (twill type). Length must be no shorter than two inches above the knee.
No cargo, jean type, or low-rise shorts are acceptable.
Belt: Solid brown or solid black – must be worn with pants or shorts for second through eighth grade.
*Not required for kindergarten or first grade.
Skirt – Kick Pleat Scooter or Front Pleated Skirt with Tabs:  Khaki or Navy Blue. Length must be no shorter than two inches above the knee.
Jumper – Twin Buckle Tab Jumper or Pleated Hem Jumper: Khaki or Navy Blue with or without CLS logo. Shorts must be worn under the jumper. Length must be no shorter than two inches above the knee.
Dress – Polo Dress: Navy blue with CLS logo. Length must be no shorter than two inches above the knee.
Shorts must be worn under dress and may not be visible.

BOYS (Grade K – 8)

Polo Shirt: Light Blue or Navy Blue short or long sleeve pique polo shirt with CLS logo.
Oxford Shirt: Light Blue or Navy Blue Short or long sleeve oxford style shirt with CLS logo.
* During the school day, all shirts must be tucked in neatly, with the exception of PE shirts.
Pants: Khaki or Navy Blue (twill type). No cargo, jean type, or low-rise pants are acceptable.
Shorts: Khaki or Navy Blue (twill type). Length must be no shorter than two inches above the knee.
No cargo, jean type, or low-rise shorts are acceptable.
Belt: Solid brown or solid black – must be worn with pants or shorts for third through eighth grade.

SWEATERS AND SWEATSHIRTS (Grade K – 8)

Sweatshirt: Solid navy blue crew neck sweatshirt with CLS embroidered or printed logo.
Sweater: Navy blue crew neck, v-neck, or button-front cardigan sweater with or without the logo.
Sweater Vest:. Navy blue crew neck or v-neck with or without the logo.

OPTIONAL ACCESSORY (Grade K – 8)

  • Tie:  Boys – to be worn with oxford style shirt only.  Color blue/gold
    Girls – to be worn with Peter Pan style blouse only.  Color blue/gold

SHOES AND SOCKS (Grade K – 8)

Shoes: Tennis shoes may be worn as part of the daily school uniform.  Tennis shoes must be blue, black, gray or white.  No characters, light-ups, etc.  They should be as plain as possible as should be the shoelaces.  No high tops, platforms or shoes with wheels.
OR:  students may continue to wear “dress” shoes in brown, tan, black or navy blue (no gray); heels must be 1” or less. No boots, clogs, sling back, moccasin, open-toed, slipper-type, platform style shoes or Crocs.

Socks:  Solid white, solid navy blue, solid brown, or solid black socks. Socks should be no lower than above the ankle.  NO patterned or miss-matched socks.

Leggings:  Solid navy blue or solid white, full/ankle length leggings to be worn under skort, polo dress, jumpers or skirts.

Tights:  Solid navy blue or solid white to be worn under skort, polo dress, jumpers or skirts.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION UNIFORM (Grade K – 8)

  • T-Shirt: Students may wear ANY CLS Spirit wear T-Shirt (with logo).
  • Sweatshirt: Solid navy blue crewneck sweatshirt with CLS logo.
  • Shorts: Solid navy blue or black sport mesh shorts.  Shorts should be no shorter than 2″inches above the knee.
  • Sweatpants: Solid navy blue or black with optional elastic bottom or open bottom.
  • Tennis shoes: Tennis shoes MUST be worn for PE.  Tennis shoes may be blue, black, gray or white.  No characters, light-ups, high tops, platforms, or shoes with rollers.  They should be as plain as possible as should be the shoelaces.
  • Socks: Solid white, solid navy blue, solid brown, or solid black socks. Socks should be no lower than above the ankle.  NO patterned or miss-matched socks.

Ordering Uniforms ~ School Store

As you are buying uniforms to start the year, there are several items to note.

  • Access the CLS school store for Uniform approved clothing CLS School Store
  • The FPP will offer multiple opportunities to purchase Spirit wear items throughout the year.
  • The FPP will hold used uniform sales at various events throughout the year.  All used uniform items are $2.00 a piece.  Used uniform items are available at the school all year long.
  • Nancy Weller, an alumni parent, will be embroidering items for $5.00 an item.  If you have uniform pieces to embroider, please drop them off at the school office.  Please make sure the bag of items includes your child’s name and payment by cash or check made out to Nancy Weller.

Dress Down Days

On special occasions, announced by the administration, students are permitted to “dress down”, which means that students do not have to wear the required CLS school uniform.

Dress Down Days for the 2022-2023 school year:

Friday, October 7th – Fun Friday (favorite outfit for P.E.)

Friday, October 28th – Fun Run Shirts (Special Shirts to be provided)

Tuesday, November 22nd – Favorite Outfit (last day before break)

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, December 19th, 20th and 21st – Christmas Color shirts (last days before Christmas break)

Friday, January 20th – Favorite Outfit

Tuesday, February 14th – Valentine’s Day Colors

Friday, March 17th – St. Patrick’s Day – Wear Green

Friday, March 24th – Favorite Outfit

Tuesday, April 4th – Favorite Outfit (Easter Break begins)

Wednesday, June 7th – Favorite Outfit (Sunday Best – No Denim) – Last Day of School
