Bust the “New Normal” with these Fun Summer Activities

“The new normal” seems to be a phrase that is tossed around a lot these days. What exactly does that look like?

For many people, the new normal is very different depending on whether you or someone in your family is considered high risk, your ability to protect yourselves when you are out and about or specifically, just how comfortable you are being around people.

Summer is looking very different this year. Activities that once were staples in our lives are not as easily executed anymore. Many public pools are not opening, amusement parks are not operating the same and beaches and boardwalks don’t hold the same appeal as they once did. Where does that leave you?

If anything positive has come out of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is that we have had to reevaluate how we spend our time with our family and others. Just because your usual activities are not available, it doesn’t mean that you can’t begin new traditions.

Here are some ideas of things you can do as a family this summer:

  • Go to a park.
  • Have a picnic, even if it is your own backyard.
  • Wash the car. (Little ones love playing with the hose and soapy water)
  • Sidewalk chalk.
  • Go on a treasure hunt.
  • Water balloon baseball.
  • Ride bikes.
  • Read a book.
  • Bake cookies.
  • Play in the sprinklers.
  • Family movie night.

These are just a few ideas, but the most important thing is that you can unplug and just spend time together as a family.
