Alumni Spotlight - Creason Walter (Schafer)

This month we are excited to introduce you to another CLS Alumni!

Creason Walter (Schafer) completed 8th grade at CLS in 2011 and graduated from Westminster High School in 2015. After graduating, she completed her undergraduate degree at Salisbury University with a Major in Community Health. She received her Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health. She currently works as the Pediatric Injury Prevention Program Coordinator for the Johns Hopkins University Children's Center in Baltimore, Maryland.

When asked how her CLS education influenced her, she told us that, "CLS empowered me to ask for help in my high school, college, and graduate classes. By having a small class size at CLS, I was able to build relationships with the teachers and staff, which has helped me in reaching out to college professors and high school teachers for assistance and guidance."

Creason recently got married. When she is not working, she enjoys walks with her dog, Brewer, and spending time with friends and family.

Classroom Activities

The seventh graders piqued their curiosity as they dissected earthworms and frogs. They have been studying the internal structures of the body and the body systems. This hands-on experience allowed the students to make new connections to what they have been reading and learning.

The fourth graders are learning all about animals in science. In a recent project, they hurled themselves into the animal kingdom and became birds on a quest to build the best nest. Our "birds" scouted the grounds of CLS on a lovely warm March day to collect all kinds of natural elements to create their own bird's nest. Students learned about different ways birds build nests and what kinds of elements the nests must withstand to protect delicate eggs. The fourth graders built nests and then performed the "Test for the Best Nest" which consisted of a wind test using a large fan, a shaking test to represent swaying tree branches, and a rain test using a garden hose. Some nests held firm while others had a few engineering problems. In all, they learned a lot about how nests are built and that birds are incredible engineers!

Save the Date - Golf Tournament

The 22nd Annual Bob Fischer Memorial Golf Tournament (formerly Swing for Scholarships) is scheduled for Thursday, September 26th at noon at Oakmont Golf Course. This tournament is being renamed in memory of Bob Fischer who was instrumental in the development of the current Carroll Lutheran School building, and we are honoring him by renaming the golf tournament and having all donations made in his name applied to our scholarship fund. More information on this wonderful event will be sent in the next couple of months.

Ways to Support Carroll Lutheran School

Carroll Lutheran School provides an academically rigorous education for students in grades K-8, inspired and sustained by the love of Christ. Each student is valued as a child of God and a unique learner, blessed with distinct gifts and a story to be written. Our wish is to continue to make CLS education accessible to every child by keeping the tuition within reach, reaching new families to grow and renew our CLS community, and continuing to invest in staff attraction, development, and retention. Your generous contributions will directly contribute to the maintenance of the school building, sustaining essential staff, and preserving the unique Christian environment that sets Carroll Lutheran School apart from the others.
